Recipe: Smoky BBQ Jackfruit Burgers 

Here is my favorite recipe for a juicy pulled jackfruit burger:

Ingredients (for 4 burgers):

  • 2 cans of young jackfruit in brine (not in syrup!)
  • 2 drops of Golden West Liquid Smoke
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 200 ml homemade or vegan barbecue sauce from Bourbon Barrel Foods
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 vegan burger buns
  • coleslaw for serving

Preparation:

  1. Drain jackfruit, tear into smaller pieces and pat dry
  2. Sauté onion and garlic in olive oil until translucent
  3. Add jackfruit, spices and 1 drop of liquid smoke, fry for 5 minutes
  4. Add BBQ sauce and another drop of liquid smoke
  5. Simmer over medium heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally and continuing to tear the jackfruit
  6. Season with salt and pepper
  7. Serve in toasted burger buns with coleslaw

Pro tip : Less is more! One or two drops are often enough to give your dishes that irresistible smoky touch.
